The Poquessing Streamkeeper Program is a team of trained citizen scientists that regularly monitor the Poquessing Creek and its tributaries. This program is part of a regional effort to improve Philadelphia area watersheds (Wissahickon, Pennypack, Tookany, Poquessing, and Cobbs Creek) through funding provided by the William Penn Foundation. 

After receiving a brief training, each Streamkeeper is assigned a location along the creek to visit every other month. Streamkeepers take photos and record observations about algae cover, water clarity, areas of streambank erosion and other factors. These findings and photos are then submitted to the monitoring coordinator who manages the data in conjunction with other watershed groups referenced above.

This is a critical program, as it provides a vital window to the current condition of the Poquessing Creek and ultimately the health of the watershed. The data provided by our Streamkeepers fosters a better understanding of the watershed and areas that would benefit from restoration and/or community education efforts.
